550, 000 People Swarm FBR 2008!

The FBR Open was the perfect stage for Oakley’s presence in the golf world. Combine the largest crowd in golf with close 550,000 people over the four-day tournament, including a record breaking single day attendance of 170,802 people. Through in the craziness of the famed 16th hole and the celebration of life on the other 17 holes and everywhere in between, and it really does not get any better. Oakley and the FBR Open are a prime example of irreverence meeting the golf community.
At the event, you had to be asleep not to experience Oakley. From our apparel, footwear, and eyewear being utilized on the course to the Oakley sponsored Greenskeepers areas to the presence of the Rolling O Lab, we were everywhere at the TPC of Scottsdale. What really sets the FBR Open apart from all other PGA tournaments is the 16th hole. If you had a simultaneous frat and sorority reunion and invited the current college crowd as well, put them in grandstands and VIP booths around a golf hole, and gave them free drinks and food for days on end, that would be the 16th hole at the FBR Open.
“Oakley was clearly the crowd favorite; as Sports Marketing was mobbed while giving out gifts to the crowd,” said Scott Olivet, CEO. “A crowd followed us around the golf course waiting for us to unpack a box so they could have an Oakley sign. My favorite was when the crowd chanted ‘Oakley’ when the pros hit the tee shot near the hole.”
“What was truly amazing is the number of people who just want to be part of Oakley. They were looking to buy our product, meet our athletes, hang out in the VIP Tent, get an invite to the party, wear an Oakley golf T-shirt, you name it.
“Kudos to our Product Teams, Sports Marketing Crew, Sales, Rolling Lab Crew, Reps, Accounts, and the myriad of Oakley people and friends of the brand who pitched in on everything from big to small. The brand is the culture and the culture is the brand.”
